Umeå hosts conference on gender, class and health inequities

The links between gender, class and poor health conditions are the focus of the conference organised by the National Institute of Public Health to be held in Umeå on 25-26 August in partnership with the Umeå Centre for Gender Studies in Medicine at Umeå University.

The aim of the conference is to discuss dynamic systems of interactions between gender and class in the creation of social inequalities in health and to identify arenas and possibilities for interventions.

As part of the conference, the general public is invited to attend an open session with two world-leading gender researchers: Professors Raewyn Connell from Australia and Kate Hunt from the United Kingdom. Raewyn Connell, University of Sydney, Australia, will deliver a keynote address titled "Intersectional social dynamics that impact on health inequalities". Kate Hunt, University of Glasgow, United Kingdom, will present a keynote address with the title "Why might class gradients in health differ by gender?"

The open session of the programme will be held on Monday, 25 August at 10:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in Lecture Hall Betula, Norrlands University Hospital, Building 6M, ground floor under the Medical Library.
